Manage licenses
Learn how to manage your licenses in SAM Core on Snow Atlas.
View licenses

On the SAM Core menu, select Licenses.

Find the license you want to view the details for. For information on how to search, see Search for licenses.

Select View details to view the details of that specific license.

Search for licenses
You can search for licenses by using filtering and sorting.

On the SAM Core menu, select Licenses.

In the table header, select the funnel of the column you want to use for your search, and then do the following:

To search by using text:
-
Select operator: Contains, Not contains, Equals, Not equal, Starts with, Ends with, Blank, or Not blank.

In Filter, enter the search criterion.

To search by using dates:
-
In the calendar view, select a time period by selecting From and To dates.

Select Apply.

To search by using numbers:
-
Select operator: Equals, Not equal, Less than, Less than or equals, Greater than, Greater than or equals, In range, Blank, or Not blank.

In Filter, enter the search criterion. For operator In range, select From and To values.

To search by using predefined values:
- Select the checkboxes for the values you want to include in your search.

To add more columns for your search, select Column selector, and then use the checkboxes to select the columns you want to add.

Optional: In the table header, select any column name to sort by that column. Select the column name once again to reverse the sort order.
Export license information
You can export information from, for example, a list or a search result in the SAM Core user interface. Available file formats are CSV, PDF, XLS/XLSX, and XML.

On the SAM Core menu, under Licenses, select License list.

Find and select the license or licenses you want to export information for. For information on how to filter, sort, and group the License list, see Manage lists.

Select the three dots in the upper-right corner of the page, select Export, and then select your preferred file format for the export.
The export will be available as a downloaded file in your web browser.
Add licenses
To make the registration of a license purchase complete, you must enter certain information, such as the name of the application, the number of licenses, and the license metric. There may also be a license policy defined by the system administrator, making more fields mandatory.

On the SAM Core menu, select Licenses.

Select Add license.

Add the applicable information. For field descriptions, see Add or edit licenses: Reference.

Select Save.
Automatic allocation is enabled when you register a license. For more information, see License allocation.
Edit licenses

On the SAM Core menu, under Licenses, select License list.

Find and select the license you want to edit. For information on how to filter, sort, and group the License list, see Manage lists.

Select Edit license.

Edit the applicable information. For field descriptions, see Add or edit licenses: Reference.

Select Save.
Copy licenses
You can create a new license based on another license. This can be useful when you add multiple licenses with similar settings and information, or if a similar license already exists.

On the SAM Core menu, under Licenses, select License list.

Find and select the license you want to copy. For information on how to filter, sort, and group the License list, see Manage lists.

On the details page of the license, select the three dots in the upper-right corner, and then select Copy license.

Edit the applicable information. For field descriptions, see Add or edit licenses: Reference.

Select Save.
Upgrade licenses
You can upgrade a license within a single license purchase or simultaneously within multiple licenses. However, selected licenses must belong to the same application family. Note that you can only upgrade existing licenses.

On the SAM Core menu, under Licenses, select License list.

Find and select the license or licenses you want to upgrade. For information on how to filter, sort, and group the License list, see Manage lists.

Select the three dots in the upper-right corner of the page, and then select Upgrade.

On the edit page of the license, do the following steps:

On the Purchase tab, select the application to upgrade to.

On the Base licenses tab, and in Base licenses to upgrade for the application, type the number of base licenses to be upgraded, and in Upgrade quantity box, type the quantity to upgrade to.

Add the rest of the applicable information. For field descriptions, see Add or edit licenses: Reference.

Select Save.
You can also upgrade a single license by first selecting the three dots in the upper-right corner of the details page of the license, and then selecting Upgrade license.
EXAMPLE
You can change license metric when upgrading licenses.
A license for Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard has Installations as default metric. If that license is upgraded to Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard, the upgrade license can have Number of processors as metric, which is the Microsoft default metric for this Windows Server version. Subsequently, the Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard license can be upgraded to a Windows Server 2016 Standard license, then using Number of processor cores as metric.
Delete licenses
When you delete a license that serves as a base license for a license upgrade, the upgraded license will become incomplete. An incomplete license is not included in compliance calculations.
You can delete a single license or several licenses at the same time.

On the SAM Core menu, under Licenses, select License list.

Find and select the license or licenses you want to delete. For information on how to filter, sort, and group the License list, see Manage lists.

Select the three dots in the upper-right corner of the page, and then select Delete licenses.

Select OK to confirm.
You can also delete a single license by first selecting Edit license on the details page of the license, and then selecting Delete.
Archive licenses

On the SAM Core menu, under Licenses, select License list.

Find and select the license you want to archive. For information on how to filter, sort, and group the License list, see Manage lists.

On the details page of the license, select the three dots in the upper-right corner, and then select Archive license.

On the Select licenses page, select the connected licenses you want to archive.

If there are archived agreements connected to the selected licenses, do the following:

Select Next.

On the Select agreements page, select the agreements you want to archive.

Select Archive.
Unarchive licenses

On the SAM Core menu, under Licenses, select License list.
-
Find and select the license you want to unarchive. For information on how to filter, sort, and group the License list, see Manage lists.
tipTo find archived licenses, select Yes in the Archived column.

On the details page of the license, select the three dots in the upper-right corner, and then select Unarchive license.

On the Select licenses page, select the connected licenses you want to unarchive.

If there are agreements connected to the selected licenses, do the following:

Select Next.

On the Select agreements page, select the agreements you want to unarchive.

Select Unarchive.
