Applications

A SaaS application is the installed software, app, or used service. The Applications pages in SaaS show consolidated data for your SaaS applications. Use these pages to gain visibility, and for application governance.

Definition of application

An application is the installed software, app, or used service. Applications are sorted into software categories in Flexera's database. Vendors often license and sell SaaS applications as subscriptions.

Usage

Application usage refers to users in your SaaS estate using SaaS applications. Users can be active or have different levels of inactivity. For definitions of user activity, see User activity.

The discovery sources collect user activity in SaaS applications. In that way, you can gain visibility into unknown or unapproved application use and take necessary actions.

User activity in applications is also the basis for subscription cost optimization.

Application management

Applications are primarily added through the discovery sources that you connect to. If you have applications that cannot be discovered, you can add them manually. For more information, see Manage SaaS applications.

For information on application governance, see Govern SaaS applications.

Application pages

The application pages show consolidated data for all discovered and manually added applications in your SaaS estate, based on the discovery sources that you connect to and the information that you add. Consolidated data is presented in indicators, charts, and tables. There are multiple filtering options on the pages, as described in Filters.

For a SaaS glossary, see SaaS: Reference.

Applications page

The Applications page shows metrics related to all your SaaS applications. The indicators and charts highlight essential information about your SaaS applications, while the table shows detailed information related to your SaaS applications.

Individual application page

The individual application page provides information for a single application. Use this page to govern each of your SaaS applications.

The individual application page has the following tabs:

  • The Overview tab shows the most important metrics and the details of the application. Subscription types marked as Free or Excluded are excluded from the indicators Monthly cost, Subscriptions, and Unassigned subscriptions. The table Applications in the same category shows a comparison with similar applications in your SaaS estate.

  • The Insights tab shows optimization opportunities for subscriptions and users related to the application.

  • The Users tab shows all users that are entitled to the application through a subscription or have activity in the application.

  • The Subscriptions tab shows all subscription types that you have for the application.
