Preparations

Before the BMC Helix ITSM connector can be configured, the following preparations must be made in BMC Helix ITSM and Snow License Manager.

To configure the BMC Helix ITSM connector:

Confirm REST connection for BMC Helix ITSM

The BMC Helix ITSM connector uses the REST API to import data into BMC Helix ITSM. Run the following URL on the server where Snow Integration Manager is installed to ensure that the REST API is available:

https://[bmc helix itsm server hostname]/api/cmdb/v1.0/versions

The port on the BMC Helix ITSM server must be open to the server on which Snow Integration Manager is installed. The default port for HTTP is 80 and for HTTPS is 443.

Create a user account with access to the BMC Helix ITSM API

A user account with access to the REST API in BMC Helix ITSM is required for Snow Integration Manager to access BMC Helix ITSM datasets and for inserting inventory data into the datasets. If no such user exist, it has to be created.

  1. Log in to the BMC Helix AR System Administration Console with a user having administrative privileges.

  2. Select New request and enter the required information:

    1. In the Group List, select Administrator or a user with permission to insert data into BMC Helix ITSM over the API.

    2. Select a License Type that complies with your license model.

  3. Select Save.

Create a dataset in BMC Helix ITSM

The BMC Helix ITSM connector imports the data collected from Snow License Manager into the dataset in BMC Helix ITSM. Snow Integration Manager requires a dedicated dataset. If there is not one already set up, it has to be created.

  1. Log in to the BMC Helix Atrium Core Console or BMX Helix CMDB with a user having administrative privileges.

  2. Create a new dataset and configure the information:

    1. Enter a Name for the dataset.

    2. Enter a Dataset ID for the dataset.

    3. Keep the Accessibility and Dataset Type in their default values.

  3. Select Save.
